- The first and foremost step is to enable the power supply by plugging the extender into the power supply socket. If the power LED light is lit then proceed, if not, then hit the power on/off button manually to turn it on.
- Then, establish a connection between your PC device and the Netgear wifi extender. To connect look for the available SSIDs and your SSID is NETGEAR_EXT. Then enter the password which might be ‘password’ or it is not password protected.
- A warning might appear on your screen, ‘Internet unavailable’ But, you must still be connected to the wifi network.
- Now, open a web browser and type in the URL mywifiext.net or the IP address 192.168.1.250. By this, you will be logged into a New extender setup page on your screen.
- Tap on the ‘NEW EXTENDER SETUP’ to connect to a new wifi router. Click yes for any terms and conditions that might appear on your screen.
- Then select the admin’s login information. These login credentials help you to log into your Netgear extender on the web browser. These are as follows-
- Enter Admin’ in the place of username as it is the default username.
- Enter any password in the place of a password, but it should be different from your wireless network’s password.
- From the drop-down menu that appears choose 2 security questions, it could be any. These are used at the time of recovering your account in case you forget your login credentials.
- Tap on Next to complete the setup. In case a prompt asks you to utilize the Netgear genie then hit the Continue tab.
- Then you have to choose the radio buttons for your connection. Choose either 2.4GHz or 5 GHz. Press on See more to check for networks if you see none.
- Then hit on the next button to proceed.
- Type in your existing wifi network’s password and then click on the Next button.
- Then for your wifi range extender choose SSID and password. The default SSID for the 2.4 GHz frequency band is _2GEXT, and for the 5 GHz frequency band is _5GEXT. The password remains the same as the existing wifi network for both the bands.
- To apply the settings you have just made, click on the Next tab. This will take a few moments.
- The extender will show the wifi network name i.e. SSID and password for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Note them somewhere so that you don’t forget in the future.
- Navigate to the wifi settings of the device you wish to connect to the extended network. Then, connect to the network by clicking on it.
- Navigate back to your web browser and tick the checkbox present at the bottom of the page and click on Continue to proceed. That’s it, your range extender is now covering the dead spots of the network connection as well.
